| NATURAL HERITAGE OF CENTRAL EUROPE |
Conservation programes in the Czechoslovakia date back to the Middle Ages when the first game parks were founded. Zofinsky Virgin Forest established in 1838 can be considered the first nature reserve in Czechoslovakia. It is also one of the oldest reserves in Europe. The main period of ecological conservation in the former Czechoslovakia began after World War II. In Czechoslovakia we find many National Parks and reserves within a relatively small area. They will attract every nature lover's attention by their unspoiled beauties, natural scenery and wide variety of plants and animals. National Parks, Protected Landscapes and Wildlife Reserves cover large areas of the country, offering the best protection for wildlife and containing the largest variety of plants and animals.
